Are you getting good Legend backups?

continued from Hot tips
<BACK

If the NO TAPE message prints, either no tape was placed in the drive OR the system encountered a problem backing up to tape. You should contact Karmak’s System Support Group immediately at 888-671-6010 after receiving this message to determine your proper course of action.

The following errors indicate that the BACKUP did not complete:

  • Medium is offline
  • Parity error
  • Fatal drive error

Backup tapes are normally good for about one year. If you do run into tape drive problems and HP changes out the drive, we recommend replacing all of your tapes with new ones.

At least once every two weeks you should clean the tape drive with the proper, non-abrasive cleaning cassette. Once the cleaning cassette is loaded in the drive, it will run from 15-20 seconds and eject itself. When the cleaning cassette ejects immediately, this signals that the cassette needs to be replaced.

Instituting a few procedures to insure you are getting good backups can save you time and money in the event of your system going down or worse yet...a catastrophe. Isn’t your business worth it?
