Karmak EDI server to end services October 31, 2001
The Karmak EDI server is scheduled for shut down on or before October 31, 2001. The Karmak EDI server filled an industry need in 1998 when it was first installed. However, with exchange services such as Corcentric and HDeXchange now providing connection via the Internet to more heavy-duty industry companies than ever before and at a lower cost per character, it only makes good sense that the Karmak EDI server should be shut down.

First annual industry-wide campaign to update CROSSMASTER-HD

Requests sent to more than 100 heavy-duty suppliers
Our first annual industry-wide campaign to update CROSSMASTER-HD began early in May.  We sent letters to more than 100 heavy-duty industry suppliers asking for their latest cross reference information.

Annual campaign
In the past, our updates to the CROSSMASTER-HD database were done only when requested by our customers or when suppliers happened to send us a significant amount of data. This year we began what we expect will become an annual campaign to update CROSSMASTER-HD and asked heavy-duty industry suppliers to send us their cross-reference information by July 1.

Laser printing option now available for INFO 5 systems

EZPrint/400, a new third-party product available for purchase, is software for the AS/400 for reformatting spooled output to print in a customized form on a laser printer. It is capable of producing laser forms from any INFO 5 spooled output and can include formatted text, graphics, and barcodes. EZPrint also offers options to produce secure MICR encoded checks on blank check stock, and custom labels.

New INFO 5 software now shipping
  • Mack Parts Locator provides information to Mack about the on-hand Mack parts at your location. This software simply gathers information and then prepares the information for transfer to Mack with the click of a button.

  • Modified Volvo P/O Download--The Volvo P/O Download is designed to allow a P/O to be downloaded into a file on a PC so that it then can be imported into Volvo's web-based P/O system. Before the modification, you were required to establish an AS/400 to AS/400 connection to Volvo through the Volvo satellite, and place orders there. Volvo has now dismantled the satellite system and satellite connections are no longer possible. You now use a menu option to create a download file on the AS/400. The file is then downloaded to the PC using Reflections. The P/O is then imported into Volvo's ordering program, after which the order is sent to Volvo.

  • Volvo LPA (Logistic Partnership Agreement) extracts Volvo daily parts usage history and on-hand information from your database system to create a forecast and to send orders, suggested orders, and order status back to your INFO 5 system.

If you are interested in or would like to know more about these products, contact the INFO 5 Sales Department (1-800-865-8991).

Legend price files now available on CD-ROM

We are pleased to offer price file customers the option of receiving any price file on CD. This will eliminate the need to pass on a tape charge, which requires you to return the tapes to get credit for that charge. Since CDs are a much more durable media, we also hope to eliminate the problems with bad tapes and having to resend a price file to you.

Please contact Karmak Systems Support (888-671-6010) for assistance loading Price File CDs. For more information on price files, please contact Deloros Whitley, Price File Administrator.

Did You Know?

E-mail support has many advantages

In an effort to provide the best possible service, Karmak offers support via e-mail, in addition to our regular phone services. E-mail provides an easy, efficient way to contact our support departments and offers several advantages over phone calls.
  1. E-mail is more convenient. You can compose and send questions at any time. Customers in different time zones find this especially helpful, as do people with demanding schedules.
  2. E-mail eliminates "phone tag"--a common workplace dilemma. "I have been handling at least 98% of our Karmak software support issues by e-mail for three to four years now," writes Lee Robak, Karmak Software Specialist, Maxim Transportation Services, Inc. "There is less bouncing back and forth between voice mail messages when trying to resolve an issue."
