Legend Version 5.7 update

Legend Version 5.7 is scheduled for release this summer. This latest release has been enhanced with many new features, including those listed here by the departments they will most benefit.

You must have upgraded to V.5.6 prior to loading V.5.7. To order your upgrade, contact Jamie Skinner (1-800-252-7625)
New Legend Payroll option The current Legend Payroll software will no longer be enhanced and will be retired as of December 31, 2002. Karmak will support an interface to the Abra Payroll package that will allow a general ledger download from Abra; however, this is the only interface to Abra Payroll that will be offered. Should you choose to follow our lead to the Abra Payroll package, you will work directly with Best Software regarding support for their product. We are in the final phase of beta testing the general ledger interface, and testing is scheduled to be complete no later than June 30, 2002.
Karmak has partnered with Best Software, a leading developer of human resources solutions, to integrate the Legend system with Best's Abra® Payroll package. This integration allows Legend customers to take advantage of one of the most comprehensive and flexible payroll systems available, as well as the entire Abra Suite® of personnel management programs.

Abra Payroll is a tested, stand-alone product that provides several advantages over the Legend Payroll module, including tracking of multiple jobs and projects per employee, customized check and form printing options, check reconciliation by spreadsheet view and check sort options, built-in government forms, quarterly tax updates, IRS electronic filing compliance, and more.  For more information on Abra Payroll, visit the Best Software website, or contact your Karmak Regional Manager.

Update Nov. 2002 - Please contact Susan Saunders at Delphia Consulting (641-749-2762) for information on Best software setup and training.

Legend Truck Pride Stock Order Download via Internet

The Legend Truck Pride Stock Order Download interface now has the ability to send data via the Internet. The new program interfaces with Truck Pride's recently introduced product called IWD (Independent Warehouse Distributors) Link. This is the latest in a series of on-going improvements we've made to the interface since we began offering it in 1997. Now orders are sent to an AutoPower-managed system and then forwarded on to HDeXchange. The new process offers smoother transfers to help distributors meet Truck Pride's electronic ordering requirements, save time, and reduce errors. Beta testing of the new interface is progressing smoothly, and current customers with Internet connections will be migrated soon. Contact your Karmak Sales Representative for more information.

Announcing the retirement of Clay Barnes
By Deb Davis
After 22 years, Clay Barnes is retiring from Karmak.  I think that it is fair to say that all INFO 5 clients have met or spoken to Clay at one time or another when calling in for support. He is knowledgeable in many areas from accounting to programming, and is a pro at merging multiple general ledgers.

  Important notice for ProfitMaker users

Update Windows components to ensure smooth operation

Microsoft frequently updates different versions of the Windows operating system and these updates are available free of charge to Internet users. Karmak recommends that ProfitMaker users check for updates periodically by going to the Start menu, and clicking Windows Update. When the Microsoft Windows Update page appears, select Product Updates. Downloading the Critical Updates will update the version of Windows you are running, and improve your PC and ProfitMaker performance.

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) are often overlooked when updating your ProfitMaker computers. Follow these steps to update your MDAC files (you will need administrative privileges if you are running Windows NT or 2000):

  1. Insert the ProfitMaker CD in the computer you are updating.

  2. From the Start menu, select Run.

  3. In the Run window, click Browse and locate the CD-ROM drive containing the ProfitMaker disc.

  4. When you find the ProfitMaker CD, select the ADO 2_7 folder.

  5. Double-click the mdac_typ27 file within this folder.

  6. Click OK and the latest version of the MDAC files will be updated on your computer.

Remember when updating your Windows and MDAC files, to update all the computers on your network to avoid receiving error messages.

Hot Tips
ProfitMaker INFO 5

ProfitMaker Tips

  Bar Code Time Entry

  • Make sure the Labor Time Entry program is open when using the bar code gun so employees can verify that they are clocking onto the open repair orders.

  Replacing your server

  • If you decide to replace your ProfitMaker server, Karmak recommends that you name your new server the same as the old server to avoid renaming the existing paths that ProfitMaker and QuickBooks use on your network. If you change the name of your server or add a new computer to the network, you will need to re-map the System DSN to point to the new desired targets. Please call ProfitMaker Support at 1-866-452-7625 to have our support group attach the database to your new server.

  Running reports

  • When you are viewing a report in ProfitMaker, be sure to point your cursor on the fields that you would like more information on. If a magnifying glass appears, you can double-click on that object to see an expanded view with additional information on that section.
  • When running reports that access the Cost of Goods Sold, remember to select Replacement as your Cost of Goods Sold method if you are operating on a replacement system. The default in the reports is for Average costing. This can reflect a significant change in your profit margin from sales. To determine if you are using Average or Replacement cost, go to the ProfitMaker System Setup, and then select Accounting Interface. If Use Average Cost is checked, then you are operating on Average Cost of Goods Sold. If this selection is unchecked, you are operating on a Replacement Cost of Goods Sold system.

INFO 5 Tips

  Credit with Miscellaneous Keyword

  • Follow these steps when the program will not let you do a credit involving a Miscellaneous Keyword:
    1. Check your setup steps by going to MENU AODSYS Option 19 Maintain Misc. Charge Records.
    2. Enter the keyword and look at the Returnable Code field.
    3. It is more than likely set to N.  Enter Y to correct this problem.

New Rental & Lease contract not displayed

  • When looking at your Edit Listing for your Rental and Lease billing run, you see that a new contract that you have entered is not displayed:
    1. Select Menu ALEASE Option 1 Maintain Contracts/Reservations.
    2. Enter the contract number and type.
    3. Press ENTER and then CMD-3 for Contract.
    4. Verify that the contract has the same billing group that you selected on your billing run.
