David Foster

Karmak is pleased to host David Foster as keynote speaker at the 2002 Distributors' Conference on March 14.

David has been involved in fleet maintenance for 27 years, beginning in the industry washing trucks and changing tires for a private Florida fleet, and he has managed or worked in all areas of fleet maintenance. He has been with Southeastern Freight Lines for 11 years and currently holds the title of Director of Maintenance. Southeastern Freight Lines is an LTL carrier operating 58 terminals in 10 states and Puerto Rico, with more than 9,000 pieces of equipment. 

David's responsibilities with Southeastern include the management of replacement parts purchasing, warranty processing, and creating specifications for replacement parts and equipment. He is also responsible for monitoring and evaluating the operating costs and overall performance of these replacement parts and new equipment. Southeastern currently operates 20 maintenance facilities throughout their system with current replacement parts purchasing totaling over $5 million annually.

He has been a member of the Technology and Maintenance Council of the American Trucking Associations since 1990. He previously served on the Board of Directors and is a Past General Chairman and Treasurer. He currently serves on TMC's Future Truck Executive Committee, the Member Contact Committee, and chairs the Vehicle Event Recording Devices task force. He is past chairman of the TMC's Vendor Performance Evaluation, Bar Code Standardization, and Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards Task Forces.

David is also a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) where he has contributed to several technical presentations. In 1993, he co-authored the joint SAE/TMC Tomorrow's Truck Paper.

He is a member of the South Carolina Maintenance Council, currently serving as Chairman of the Training Committee, the National Truck Historical Society, and the North Carolina Industries for Technical Education.

He has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of Fleet Equipment magazine for several years.

In 1997, he received the Silver Spark Plug Award, the Technology and Maintenance Council's highest award, which is given to individuals in recognition of their contributions in the development of improved equipment and components resulting in increased efficiencies and safety for commercial highway transportation.
