Quick response aids customer after firecontinued from What's New at
Karmak? Russ Bishop, Karmak's manager of systems and communications, arrived in Anderson Sunday evening after assembling and packing the replacement system with the assistance of shipping and receiving clerk, Shawna Egbert. On arrival at the fire site, Russ helped sift through debris for anything salvageable. He worked through the night to set up the business system and find a usable backup tape. Extreme heat and water damage proved to be too much for tapes recovered from a fireproof safe. Russ was finally able to restore data from a tape kept off-site. "We lost everything in the fire," Teddi said, "but thanks to Russ, we only had to recreate four days worth of data. It was absolutely fabulous." By Monday morning, August 13, the Karmak system was up and running reports. "The only thing that slowed us down was finding a cleaning tape," Teddi said. Duke's has been in business since 1955, and a Karmak customer since 1994. Owner John Paugh plans to rebuild. A tentative location has been selected to rent as a temporary facility. Meanwhile, the recovery process continues from Carter Express, which is also owned by John Paugh. No one was injured in the fire, which was traced to a gas water heater, but damages are estimated at more than $1 million. Karmak's response to this crisis is typical of our commitment to providing the best possible service to our customers.
