continued from What's new at Karmak?
<BACK

You may attend unlimited Webinars with no limit to the number of attendees from the company. It is important that the "department decision makers" of the company (such as Parts Managers) attend the Webinars. Karmak Webinars use Webex (http://www.webex.com) to cover the Version 7.2 Update procedures. Webinars will prepare you with the following information:

  • What to expect when upgrading to Version 7.2
  • How to perform the 7.2 update steps to ensure data updates properly
  • What decisions and changes will be made while cleaning up data, and how these decisions and changes will impact the System
  • How the message member additions and changes will affect the System
  • Opportunity for questions regarding Version 7.2 Update
  • Each company will need to attend a Post-Update 7.2 Webinar the Monday following the upgrade to ensure employees fully understand the 7.2 enhancements. It is important that Parts personnel attend Version 7.2 Post-Update Webinars.
  • INFO 5 Support will need to dial into the System to validate several file sharing requirements to ensure that the System is ready for the 7.2 upgrade before the Version 7.2 Update is sent out.

Version 7.2 Update Procedures:

INFO 5 Version 7.2 contains several major enhancements. The most significant enhancement provides the new option of allowing for duplicate part numbers from different vendors on the System. How the Pre-Update steps are performed will significantly impact how data is converted during the update. Therefore, it is imperative that the Pre-Update steps are performed correctly.

Because of the importance of the release setup, 7.2 Pre-Update steps typically take longer to undertake than previous releases. Karmak recommends beginning the 7.2 Pre-Update steps well in advance of the actual upgrade date. These steps may take several days or several weeks depending on the circumstances. INFO 5 Support will be available during normal support hours to answer questions regarding 7.2 update or to assist in any other way needed.

To begin the release update process, go to Karmak's Customer Confidential website. If you do not have the Customer Confidential user name and password, contact Karmak at 800-865-8991.

Please perform the following based on your current INFO 5 release level:

INFO 5 Release 7.1A:

  • On the Customer Confidential main page, select the "INFO 5 Updates" link on the left side of the page. On the next page that appears, select the "Release 7.1A" link. This automatically links you to the page that contains the link to download the 7.2 update manuals. Please note that there are three manuals for Version 7.2:
  • Version 7.2 Pre-Update Manual. This manual contains steps to perform in advance of the upgrade date. This manual can be downloaded and/or printed at this time.
  • Version 7.2 Message Members Manual. This manual contains the message members that must be set up on the System prior to installing Version 7.2.
  • Version 7.2 Update Manual. After the above prerequisites have been met, and you have requested and received the Version 7.2 Update CD, the manual to perform the Version 7.2 Update and Post-Update steps may be downloaded and/or printed. The Version 7.2 Update CD may be ordered from this page. Please allow two-weeks notice when ordering your update CDs.

Note: When preparing to install the update, download the Version 7.2 Update Manual for review. To ensure that you have all of the latest notes and revisions available for use during the install process, you should download a final copy just prior to installing the update.

INFO 5 Release 7.1 or lower:

  • As in the past, the release update process must be followed one release at a time. For example, if you are currently operating Release 7.0B and need to upgrade to Version 7.2, you must first upgrade to Release 7.1, then Release 7.1A, and then to Version 7.2. There is one exception to this rule: If you are operating Release 7.0, you can upgrade directly to Release 7.0B, and bypass the upgrade to Release 7.0A.
  • On the Customer Confidential main page, select the "INFO 5 Updates" link on the left side of the page. On the next page that appears, select the current INFO 5 release level. This automatically links you to the page that contains the link to download the update manual. The form to order the update CD is located on this same page. Please allow two-weeks notice when ordering your update CDs.
  • Once the System has been upgraded to INFO 5 Release 7.1A and meets the minimum 7.2 prerequisites (as listed above), you can begin the steps to upgrade to Version 7.2.

Enhancements since Release 7.1A

INFO 5 Version 7.2 contains major enhancements to the following modules:

  • Parts
  • Accounting
  • Service

INFO 5 Version 7.2 also contains important enhancements to:

  • ProfitMaster

In addition to these enhancements, numerous fixes to known problems in prior releases have also been included. For a complete list of enhancements and fixes please refer to the Version 7.2 Pre-Update Manual.

For questions regarding the 7.2 update process, feel free to contact the INFO 5 Application Support Department at or 800-865-8991.
