David Foster, Director of Maintenance for Southeastern Freight Lines, opened the conference on Thursday afternoon by discussing what fleets want when looking for vendors. In addition to delivering products and services on time and undamaged and invoicing them correctly, David looks for vendors who will partner with him and help him increase his own company's efficiency and productivity. The use of VMRS codes and electronic commerce are also hot topics for his company.

T. Scott Gross, a professional motivational speaker, entertained the audience Thursday evening with a presentation on "Positively Outrageous Service." His message was that if you can make your customers say "Wow" on a consistent basis, you'll build loyalty from your customer base. Don't be afraid to take risks, and empower your employees to contribute to this customer-building process.

During the Friday morning Technology Update, David Gordon, CFO for Transaxle Corporation, began the session with a discussion on how the Internet continues to transform their company's way of doing business. By incorporating both Internet and intranet sites, their business continues to move further and further into the electronic age.

Steve McEnany, Vice President of Marketing and eCommerce for Midwest Wheel Companies, spoke on how his company is using Karmak's eCommerce module in conjunction with HDeXchange to increase efficiency. Steve is a member of HdeXchange's technical committee.

Carl Hall, President of Enterprise Data Management (EDM), spoke on the topic of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) in the heavy-duty industry and how companies are seeing their bottom lines increasing as a result.

Carroll "Scooby" Barbre, a Karmak consultant, gave a presentation on Karmak's Barcode Receiving module and how implementing it in your warehouse can increase productivity and efficiency. Curt Ackerman, General Manager for Keller Truck Parts, gave a testimonial on how it has improved their warehouse and then invited the audience to that afternoon's Barcode Receiving roundtable discussion.

Richard Schien, President and CEO of Karmak, then wrapped up the morning's presentations by speaking on how warehouse distributors can use the various technologies available from Karmak to move into the area of electronic commerce and increase their profits. He also spoke on Karmak's future and how that will affect our customers.

After listening to perspectives on different technologies during Friday morning's presentations, conference attendees were then invited to attend that afternoon's roundtable discussions on eCommerce, Barcode Receiving, Profit Enhancing, and Internet.

Distributors who missed this year's conference will have other opportunities to meet with Karmak executives at meetings held in conjunction with other industry events this year.  See the article on Karmak Distributor Meetings for more information.
